What is Mohs surgery?
In Mohs surgery at SKIN, the skin cancer is excised and then immediately examined under the microscope to ensure it has been adequately removed. If any cancer cells remain, this area can be further excised until all the cancer is removed. The wound is only closed once we are confident that all the cancer has been removed.
Our experienced Moh’s Technicians process specimens in our lab.
This differs from standard surgery which involves excision of your skin cancer following followed immediately by wound repair. Your skin specimen is then sent to the laboratory to be processed over a number of days. In some circumstances further surgery may then be required if your cancer is not completely removed on the first occasion.
